Save the referral and the extra appointment
Most wisdom teeth — even impacted ones — can be safely extracted by a general dentist with surgical training. Dr. Pedersen handles routine and moderately impacted wisdom teeth in-house, so most patients don’t need a separate oral surgeon referral.
For complex cases involving close proximity to nerves or major sinus involvement, we’ll refer you to a trusted oral surgeon — but only when truly indicated.

Nitrous, oral sedation, or just local — your choice
For most wisdom teeth extractions, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is more than enough. For more anxious patients or longer procedures, oral sedation makes the appointment fade into the background.
Either way: you’ll feel pressure but no pain during the procedure.

I avoided the dentist for almost eight years. Dr. Pedersen and her team made me feel completely safe — no judgment, no lecture, just a real plan I could afford. Two years in and I never miss a cleaning.— Sarah M.

Most patients are back to normal in 3–5 days
Pain management protocols, written after-care instructions, and direct access to Dr. Pedersen if anything seems off. Most patients eat soft foods for 1–2 days and are back to normal eating by day 5.
Dry socket — the most common complication — is rare in our patients because we use proper post-op clot protection.

“I avoided the dentist for almost eight years. Dr. Pedersen and her team made me feel completely safe — no judgment, no lecture, just a real plan I could afford. Two years in and I never miss a cleaning.”
“We have four kids ranging from 6 to 17. Having one dental office that handles all of them — including my teenager’s Invisalign — has saved us so many hours of driving.”
“I’d been searching for a ‘natural dentist’ in Overland Park for two years. Finally found one that doesn’t make me feel weird for asking about my fillings.”
“Walked in convinced I needed a root canal. They diagnosed a cracked filling and fixed it the same day for a fraction of what I’d been quoted. Honest, fast, painless.”

“Cracked a molar on a Tuesday morning. Called at 8am, was in the chair by 11 with a same-day temporary crown. They saved my workweek.”
“I’d been hiding my smile for a decade. Now I forget I have implants until someone compliments my teeth.”
“Quoted four veneers somewhere else. Dr. Pedersen showed me a digital preview and we ended up doing bonding on two teeth and whitening — same result, a fraction of the cost.”
“The Smile Club paid for itself in the first six months. As a freelancer with no insurance, this is the only reason I actually get my teeth cleaned twice a year now.”

“Dr. Pedersen finished my Invisalign in eleven months. My old dentist (Bronze tier) had quoted twenty. Experience really does matter.”
“Having a Diamond+ Invisalign Provider this close to home meant my daughter didn’t have to miss school for every check-in. They explained everything to her like she was the patient, not me.”
“My six-year-old now asks when we get to go back to the dentist. That has never happened in any office before. The team is something else.”
“My implant looks better than the tooth it replaced. Every step explained, every cost in writing up front, zero surprises on the bill.”

Frequently asked questions
How much does wisdom teeth removal cost in Overland Park?
Simple extractions $200–$400 per tooth. Surgical (impacted) extractions $300–$800 per tooth. All four wisdom teeth typically cost $1,200–$3,000 depending on complexity and sedation.
Do I need to be put to sleep for wisdom teeth?
No — most wisdom teeth can be safely removed with local anesthesia plus optional nitrous oxide. Oral sedation is available for very anxious patients. IV sedation and general anesthesia are rarely required.
How long does wisdom teeth recovery take?
Most patients are back to soft foods within 24 hours and normal eating by day 5. Full bone healing takes 6–8 weeks but doesn’t affect daily activities.
Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?
No — only wisdom teeth that are impacted, causing crowding, decaying, or causing repeated infections need removal. We don’t recommend extraction of asymptomatic, fully erupted, easy-to-clean wisdom teeth.
Will my insurance cover wisdom teeth removal?
Most PPO plans cover wisdom teeth extraction at 50–80% as a basic restorative procedure. We verify benefits before treatment and provide written cost estimates.
What’s dry socket and how do I avoid it?
Dry socket happens when the protective blood clot dislodges from the extraction site. We use post-op clot protection and provide specific aftercare instructions to prevent it (no straws, no smoking, no spitting for 24 hours).
Can I drive after the procedure?
With local anesthesia + nitrous only: yes. With oral sedation: you’ll need a ride home and shouldn’t drive for the rest of the day.
