Is there a mobile dentist in Overland Park? There is, and it works differently from what most people picture when they search for a mobile dentist near them. Smile OnSite is a fully equipped mobile dental studio that pulls up to a school, workplace, senior living community or event in Johnson County and across the Kansas City metro.
This guide explains what happens on board, who can book a visit, what a mobile studio can and cannot do, and what Kansas law requires of any mobile dental provider. It also answers the question many searchers really have, which is whether a dentist can come to your house. We say plainly when the answer is no. For routine care for children at an office, see our guide to the best age to bring your child to the dentist.
Is there a mobile dentist in Overland Park, KS?
Yes. Smile OnSite is Love To Smile’s mobile studio office, a fully equipped dental office on wheels that is dispatched from our Overland Park office at 10925 Antioch Road, Suite 201. Our Smile OnSite mobile dentist page says to call (913) 491-1200, and the team will forward you to the Smile OnSite team to coordinate a visit. That page lists the mobile line’s hours as Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
What “mobile dentist” can mean
The phrase covers two different things, and Kansas law names both. A mobile dental facility is a self-contained facility in which dentistry is practiced that can be moved, towed or transported from one location to another, which is what a studio like Smile OnSite is. A portable dental operation is dental equipment carried to a temporary out-of-office site, and the statute lists other dentists’ offices, patients’ homes, schools, nursing homes and other institutions as examples (K.S.A. 65-1469). So “mobile dentist near me” can mean a trailer in a parking lot or a team with a portable kit at someone’s home, and the two are not the same service.
What happens inside a mobile dental studio?
Routine dental care, in a real dental setting. The Smile OnSite page describes digital X-rays, exam chairs and sterilization on board, and says cleanings, exams and preventive care happen on site so that no one has to take a day off or arrange a ride. The diagram shows how a visit unfolds for a host group and for the team on the studio.

- Digital X-raysDigital X-rays, exam chairs and sterilization are on board.
- Follow-up if neededFor anything more involved, a follow-up is coordinated at the main office.
What stays at the office
The studio is built for routine care, and the page is clear about the edge: for anything more involved, the team coordinates a follow-up at the main office. That suggests a mobile visit can spot a problem, and a regular office visit is where larger treatment, such as crowns, root canals or Invisalign, would happen. Our Overland Park and Peculiar location pages list the full range of care available at the offices.
The page describes the on-board care as the same quality you would get in our office. As with any provider, it is still fair to ask who will be on the studio and how follow-up works, and the questions further down will help.
Who can book a mobile dentist visit in Overland Park?
Organizations can. The Smile OnSite page says schools, employers, senior communities and community organizations across the Kansas City metro are all welcome to host a visit. It describes four groups it serves:
- Schools and universities. Care that keeps students from leaving class for a day.
- Businesses and teams. An on-site wellness option for employees.
- Senior living communities. Convenient care for residents who cannot easily travel.
- Community groups and events. Dental care brought to neighborhoods.
To book, reach out through the contact form or call (913) 491-1200, and the team helps plan a visit date that works for your group. Not sure whether your situation fits? Answer two questions below.
Is the mobile studio the right fit for you?
Two quick choices. One of the answers tells you an office visit is simpler, and one tells you the mobile studio is not a home-visit service.
1. Who are you?
2. What do you want done on board?
Wondering whether the mobile studio could visit your group? Ask the team.
Ask about Smile OnSite
Does a mobile dentist come to your house?
Smile OnSite does not, according to our own new patient page, which says the mobile studio visits partner organizations rather than private homes. The same page says that if getting to an office is difficult, you should call and the team will help you choose the easiest option, so it is worth a phone call before you give up on care.
Other providers may offer home visits. Kansas law lists patients’ homes among the places a portable dental operation can work, and it requires those operations to be registered, which gives you a concrete thing to ask for.
Booking a mobile dentist in Overland Park and Johnson County
Start with a phone call to the Overland Park office. Smile OnSite is dispatched from 10925 Antioch Road, Suite 201, and the mobile line’s hours on our Smile OnSite page are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The page says hosts across the Kansas City metro are welcome, so a school, employer or senior community in Overland Park, Leawood, Lenexa, Olathe, Prairie Village or elsewhere in Johnson County can ask about a visit.
The office itself is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and closed Saturday and Sunday. Families who need care for themselves can book the Overland Park office or the Peculiar, MO office at 215 N. Main Street, where the number is (816) 620-2022. Our guide to back-to-school dental checkups for Johnson County student athletes covers school-age care.
Kansas also sets rules for mobile dental operations, and they are worth knowing before you host one.
What does Kansas require of a mobile dental provider?
Registration with the Kansas Dental Board. K.S.A. 65-1469 says no person may operate a mobile dental facility or portable dental operation in Kansas unless registered under that section. The operator must be a person or entity authorized to own a dental practice under Kansas law and hold a current registration issued by the board, and registrations are renewed on March 1 of even-numbered years (K.S.A. 65-1469).
The statute also tells the board to write rules on the things a host would care about: the official address and telephone number of the mobile operation, the proper maintenance of dental records, procedures for emergency follow-up care, communications equipment, appropriate authorizations for treatment, follow-up treatment and services, and notice if the operation shuts down. It has exemptions, including dentists providing services for government agencies, not-for-profit organizations providing dental services, and certain dentists who treat their own patients of record outside the office for fewer than 30 days a year.
Six questions to ask any mobile dental provider
- Are you registered with the Kansas Dental Board? The statute requires registration for mobile facilities and portable operations that are not exempt.
- Who are the dentist and hygienists on the visit?Ask for names and confirm they are licensed.
- What is the plan for emergency follow-up care? The statute directs the board to require one, so there should be an answer.
- Where are patient records kept, and how do patients get them?Records rules are part of the framework.
- How is consent handled? For students and residents, ask how treatment authorizations are collected.
- What happens if someone needs more care after the visit? At Smile OnSite, anything more involved is coordinated at the main office.
These are fair questions for any provider, ours included. Asking them is part of doing your homework as a host, a parent or an administrator.
Why bring dental care to a school, workplace or senior community?
Because routine care is easier to keep when it comes to people. On-site dentistry is an established idea in public health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention describes school sealant programs that use portable equipment in a school setting, have a licensed dental professional screen children for oral disease, and refer any child who needs more follow-up care to a local dentist (CDC school sealant programs). The shape is the same as Smile OnSite’s: do routine care where people already are, and hand anything bigger to a full office.
For employers and senior communities the draw is practical. The Smile OnSite page calls the studio an easy on-site wellness perk for employees and care for senior residents who cannot easily travel. It is a convenience, not a substitute for a dental home, and the table shows how it compares with an office visit.
