Diet

Our mouths are part of our bodies, and as such, they benefit from a good diet. It’s recommended that you keep a few key staples in your diet to ensure that your teeth and gums remain healthy and strong. Be sure to enrich your diet with foods that contain plenty of calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin C. Calcium, as most know, is a building block for strong teeth. Seek out calcium in dairy products, certain types of fish, almonds, and green leafy veggies. Phosphorus goes hand in hand with calcium, as another tooth-strengthening element. You’ll find plenty of calcium in fish, eggs, certain lean meats, nuts, legumes, and dairy products. Now, vitamin C is great for gum health, and it serves as an antioxidant, which is great for the whole body. Be sure to consume plenty of greens, broccoli, tomatoes, potatoes, pepper, and citrus fruits — just be wary that citrus fruits and tomatoes can wear at your tooth enamel, so wash down these foods with a glass of milk or water to protect your teeth!

Regular Cleaning

It’s no secret that regular cleanings are an important part of a good regimen for your oral health. Be sure to take care of your teeth day and night by brushing at least twice per day and flossing just as often. You can also brush and floss after meals — just be sure to wait 30 minutes after a meal to brush your teeth, since your enamel may be weakened by the food you’ve just consumed (depending on what you just ate). Avoid Oral Health Hazards

Avoid smoking (which is awful for your oral health, including both your teeth and gums) and other tobacco products, and moderate your alcohol consumption (alcohol can damage teeth and gums over time, and alcoholic beverages often contain sugar, which can further cause damage). Strive to minimize your consumption of sweets and highly acidic foods and drinks. Steer clear of candy, sodas, and other damaging foods and drinks as much as possible. If you do choose to have a treat that can damage your oral health, be sure to wash it down with a glass of water or milk, and consider brushing your teeth after 30 minutes.
